In the first part of our three-part blog series on the Hybrid Patriot 5510®, we will explore performance across all available modes of respiratory protection.
The Hybrid Patriot 5510 is unique in that it provides the end user with all of the modes of respiratory protection currently available (APR / PAPR / SCBA / [LP] SAR) in a single lightweight backpack. When each of these levels of protection are offered as individual pieces of equipment, the end-user must know going into a situation which level of protection would be required. The Hybrid Patriot 5510 resolves that problem by combining all of these individual pieces of equipment into one system. In addition, the Hybrid Patriot 5510 is designed to allow for one of the air cylinders to be removed making it a practical solution as a rescue or VIP extraction option. Built with flexibility in mind, the 5510 can be configured in APR mode or used for 4 hours in PAPR mode and for either a 37 or 74 minute (at 40 LPM) in SCBA mode for a combine 4:30 to 5 Hours of operational time.
For longer operations, such as evidence documentation and collection, the Low Pressure [LP] SAR mode can be utilized. Low pressure SAR is currently used by the majority of fire departments and the US Army Civilian Support Teams [CST], whose job it is to assist state and local law enforcement in a terrorist event. This level of interoperability has proven to be invaluable allowing end-users that ability to recharge the PATRIOT 5510 in a contaminated environment, never having to exit a ‘hot’ zone and be deconned, saving time and resources. The system uses commercially available lithium 123 batteries for its power source, all batteries are confined to a ‘speed loader’ component, which allows for quick change in the field when needed.
